Authorities ID motorized scooter driver killed in crash with police car

The state has identified the victim of a fatal crash involving a police cruiser and released the name of the officer involved.

The crash occurred on Route 35 near Sunset Avenue in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, on the night of April 15, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office said.

Ocean Township Police Officer Ryan Deceglie was traveling south on Route 35 in his marked police vehicle shortly after 9 a.m. when the car became involved in a crash with multiple civilian vehicles, officials said.

Guyvenson Innocent, 35, of Beachwood, the driver of a motorized scooter, was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said.

The officer and other civilians involved were not injured. The state did not release the circumstances of the crash.

A 2019 law requires the state Attorney General’s Office to investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with police or while a person is in custody. All investigations are also presented to a grand jury to determine if the officers involved will face criminal charges.
