Report: £4m player is edging closer to leaving Newcastle, clubs in Saudi Arabia want him

Having sold Allan Saint-Maximin to a club in Saudi Arabia last year, Newcastle United could once again do business in the Middle East.

Selling Saint-Maximin was key for Newcastle United in 2023, as it allowed the Magpies to bring in Tino Livramento. He has been outstanding, while Toon officials replaced ASM with Harvey Barnes. And while the England international is not as tricky, he is certainly more impactful.

Now Newcastle could once again do a deal with a club in Saudi Arabia, after almost selling Miguel Almiron to Al-Shabab in January.

There was a deal in place for the Paraguayan to leave, but he wanted to remain at St James’ Park. His future is unclear heading into the summer transfer window, and the same goes for another one of the Magpies’ longest-serving players.

Another Newcastle United player linked with Saudi Arabia move

It is clear that Newcastle United need to move some players on this summer, with the likes of Almiron and Callum Wilson linked with moves away from Tyneside.

However, a new report from iNews suggests another player who is at risk of being sold by Amanda Staveley and co.

According to iNews, Martin Dubravka is at risk of being moved on by the Magpies this summer. They state that he is ‘edging towards the exit door’, with clubs in Saudi Arabia interested in his signature.

Newcastle have struggled with Martin Dubravka in goal

Dubravka’s current Newcastle contract expires in 2025, meaning this summer is the time to cash in on him – unless they intend on handing him a new deal.

However, that feels unlikely given the fact he is 35-years-old and has massively struggled since coming into the team this season. The £4million Rafa Benitez signing has been the Newcastle number one since Nick Pope suffered a shoulder injury in December, and has massively hindered the way the Magpies defend.

It has been a really tough few months for Dubravka, although there have been some highs. He was exceptional in the FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers, while he also impressed Jurgen Klopp during Newcastle’s loss to Liverpool in January.

Newcastle looking to sign a replacement

Amid Dubravka’s struggles, Newcastle have been looking for a replacement. It was recently reported that the club would like to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, while iNews state that the club have been scouring the market for an alternative.

The one name that keeps being linked is Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is the Valencia goalkeeper. He is incredibly highly rated, and would be a massive upgrade on Dubravka. The 23-year-old would also challenge Pope for a place in the starting XI, such is his ability.
