Report: Chelsea now want to sign player Arsenal sold for just £10m

Chelsea are now hoping to sign a player who Arsenal sold for just £10m.

The Blues will need to make some shrewd moves in the summer transfer window after a tough 2023/24 campaign under Mauricio Pochettino – and recruitment plans are already being put in place.

Todd Boehly has placed a firm emphasis on signing young talent in possession of world class potential since taking over at Stamford Bridge – although Chelsea are now plotting a move for a very experienced player who Arsenal let go in 2017…

Chelsea want to sign Wojciech Szczesny

Well – according to Tutto Juve – Chelsea want to buy Wojciech Szczesny this summer.

The west Londoners signed two goalkeepers as recently as last summer when £25m was spent to lure Robert Sanchez away from Brighton, before a £14m deal was agreed with New England Revolution for Djordje Petrovic as well.

However, Chelsea are still not satisfied with the goalkeeping department, and hope to sign a reliable No.1 in the 34-year-old Szczesny.

The Poland international – who Juventus signed from Arsenal for £10m in 2017 – has been superb in Serie A so far this season, keeping 15 clean sheets in 32 appearances while conceding just 25 goals.

Tutto Juve believe Juventus would be happy to sell Szczesny for just €10m (£9m) this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract – and have lined up Monza No.16 Michele Di Gregorio as a replacement.

The Italian news outlet add that Chelsea are also looking at Aaron Ramsdale – in case a move for the Pole does not materialise.

Arsenal should offer Aaron Ramsdale

In our view, Arsenal should offer Chelsea the chance to sign Ramsdale this summer.

The England international is currently valued at £50m – according to Football Transfers – and Arsenal would be naive to have such a valuable glovesman as No.2 behind David Raya amid the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Selling Ramsdale would allow the north Londoners to spend more in the market on other areas of Mikel Arteta’s squad, and while the Gunners would ideally not sell to a rival, Chelsea are currently lightyears away from Arsenal’s level, so an immediate difference is unlikely to be noticed.

If Arsenal do wave goodbye to the man from Stoke-on-Trent this summer, Edu Gaspar already has one new goalkeeping option in mind…
