Report: Tottenham are now more likely than Arsenal to sign ‘one of the top 10 players in Europe’

Both Tottenham and Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer.

Indeed, there’ve been numerous reports linking both Spurs and the Gunners to a new centre-forward, and, as you can imagine, both clubs are fishing in similar sorts of ponds.

From Alexander Isak to Ivan Toney, Arsenal and Spurs have been linked with a number of the same strikers.

Another striker Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked with is Santiago Gimenez, and it looks as though there’s now a clear leader in that race.

Tottenham leading Santiago Gimenez race

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are the most likely Premier League team to sign Gimenez this summer.

Ben Jacobs spoke to GiveMeSport about Gimenez, and he labelled Tottenham as the team to watch in this race this summer.

This is increasingly intriguing as Gimenez was seen at this weekend’s north London derby and nobody could quite figure out if he was there to have a look at Spurs or Arsenal.

Now, it would seem as though the Mexican was casting his eye over Tottenham as a potential move to Spurs beckons this summer.

Tottenham need to tread carefully

As exciting a player as Gimenez looks, we can’t help but think that Spurs need to approach this deal with a fair bit of caution.

Described as ‘one of the top 10 players in Europe’, Gimenez has the hallmarks of a top player, but he’s unproven at the elite level.

How many times have we seen players coming from the Eredivisie fail to make a mark in the Premier League? Antony, Alfonso Alves and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are just a few examples.

Tottenham ought to know the dangers of signing a player from the Netherlands after Vincent Janssen’s failure at Tottenham a few years ago off the back of banging in the goals in the Netherlands.

This is an exciting transfer rumour, but there is reason to be cautious around any potential deal involving Gimenez moving to Tottenham.
