Young people living within the district can apply for a £1,500 grant to help them reach centre stage in their creative careers.
The Palace Theatre, Newark has announced that applications to its Our Past Your Future fund are open until Friday, June 28.
People aged between 16 to 25 hoping to have a career in any venues of the industry, including but not limited to, stage management, lighting and sound, costume and wardrobe, script writing, choreography or business with an arts bias can apply.
A grant of £1,500 towards course fees or living expenses is available for those who have a place to study any creative arts subject in 2024-2025.
The Our Past Your Future fund was created by the Palace Theatre team when the theatre celebrated its centenary year in 2020.
The award is offered in partnership with Tallents Solicitors.
Newark and Sherwood District Council’s portfolio holder for heritage, culture and the arts, Rowan Cozens, said: “The district has a strong history of Art and Cultural Heritage. Buildings like the Palace Theatre are testament to the importance previous generations placed on practical arts subjects, so we hope this will enable them to become involved in the wonderful world of the performing arts.
“Young people put so much hard work and dedication in to get to a high level of attainment in arts subjects, especially as these areas are often extra-curricular, so I am delighted that we can support them with this fund.”
Carys Coulton-Jones, business manager for heritage and culture at Newark and Sherwood District Council added: “The team at The Palace believes passionately in the importance of the arts and in their potential to improve lives.
“This fund seeks to encourage local young people’s creative aspiration, and to create a network of people from Newark and Sherwood working in all aspects of the creative industries.”
Applicants are asked to demonstrate their passion for the arts and plans for a future in the industry through a short application form.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in July.
