‘He’s a problem’: Stephen O’Donnell names the ‘quality’ Celtic player he hates playing against

Celtic have a number of players that can cause our rivals plenty of problems whether it’s domestically or in Europe.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been superb and a nightmare for defenders in the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League.

You could also say the same for Luis Palma as he has scored twice in the Champions League group stages and ten times in Scotland and earned acclaim from his peers in Honduras.

However, Motherwell midfielder, Stephen O’Donnell, has shared the one Celtic player he hates playing against and it’s neither of the aforementioned two.

Reo Hatate causes ‘a problem’

The experienced Motherwell man was waxing lyrical about Reo Hatate and praised the Japanese midfielder’s performances since returning from injury this season.

O’Donnell said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’s a problem. He’s got loads of energy, loads of quality, kind of both-footed.

“Not too dissimilar to Matt O’Reilly in how he can receive the ball.

“I think maybe Matt has got maybe a wee bit more of an end product, but very good footballer and he’s been a great signing for Celtic.”

Hatate has been an excellent signing for Celtic and made an immediate impact in Ange Postecoglou’s maiden season at the club.

However, this season he has struggled to hit the heights of his first 18 months at the club as injury has hampered much of his gametime under his new manager, Brendan Rodgers.

But since his return from his injury issues, Hatate has been superb in stepping up after another injury forced Callum McGregor out of the side for much of last month.

The fact that he is back in the team and building his fitness for the title run-in is a massive boost for Celtic because, with Hearts and Rangers up next, Hatate’s experience of putting both these teams to the sword in recent seasons could be invaluable for the Celtic manager.
