Giovani Lo Celso did something in four minutes which no other Tottenham player could match vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso played a mere four minutes last night in the defeat to Chelsea.

The Argentine midfielder has been struggling for minutes all season since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

After defeat in the North London Derby on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs were thrown right back into the action with a trip to Stamford Bridge.

And as history would suggest, it was another miserable evening for the Spurs supporters with Mauricio Pochettino’s side coming out on top.

Postecoglou made some changes to his midfield with James Maddison noticeably dropped amid his poor run of form.

However, it was not Giovani Lo Celso who was given the nod in the playmaker role with Dejan Kulusevski in from the start instead.

Despite coming on in the dying minutes of the game, the World Cup winner was still able to outperform all Spurs player in one metric.

What Giovani Lo Celso did which no other Tottenham player could manage vs Chelsea

The form of players like Maddison and Kulusevski is a big reason as to why Spurs find themselves so badly out of form.

A huge part of Tottenham’s issues undoubtedly lies in their inability to defend set pieces and that is something which must be resolved.

However, their attacking intent has also fallen off a cliff in recent months with the last three games having seen Cristian Romero score and Heung-min Son net from a penalty.

And yet it has taken until now for Postecoglou to switch it up with Maddison finally being dropped from the starting XI.

Lo Celso was finally brought on in the 86 minute of the game at Stamford Bridge and he wasted no time in trying to make an impact.

The cameo appearance was his 19 appearance of the season but he has only been able to rack up 470 minutes in those games.

However, according to WhoScored, in those four minutes, Lo Celso was able to create three chances which was more than any other Tottenham player.

Tottenham clearly have an issue currently in creating chances and scoring. Yet Postecoglou looks to be refusing the likes of Lo Celso minutes.

Chelsea loss was a damning indication on Giovani Lo Celso’s future

Coming into the season, it felt like there was a real opportunity for Lo Celso to finally make an impact in north London under Postecoglou.

Of course, Maddison was always going to be the starter after joining for a decent amount of money in the summer.

But the Argentine decided to stay at Spurs despite having the opportunity to leave, but he has not been repaid for his loyalty.

Postecoglou has already admitted the midfielder is free to leave in the summer if he is not happy with his game time.

And it is hard to imagine how a World Cup winner could be satisfied with the way he has been treated this season when there have been opportunities for him to have been used by the manager.
