'I got pelters': Stan Collymore hits back at Nottingham Forest fans over their VAR 'conspiracy theory'

Nottingham Forest fans have been aimed at by pundit Stan Collymore after his latest verdict on the Everton VAR decisions.

Just three games remain for Nuno Espirito Santo‘s men to retain their Premier League status as they battle the drop.

And a huge opportunity for three points is on the horizon as Forest travel to Sheffield United tomorrow.

They will be coming up against a freshly relegated Sheffield United who now have nothing but pride to play for in their remaining games.

Nuno’s men will be desperate not to join them in returning to the Championship over the next couple of weeks.

But Forest are expected to take legal action if they do go down on the back of some of the VAR decisions which they feel have gone against them.

Collymore has now given a fresh verdict on the three VAR decisions which Forest did not get in their recent outing against Everton.

His comments come on the back of the statement from the PGMOL which claimed Forest should have had one penalty from a possible three.

What did Stan Collymore say about Forest fans?

Naturally, Forest fans will be feeling aggrieved by some of the refereeing decisions which have not gone their way this season.

Chris Wood has admitted the players are trying to put it behind them and just focus on the games still to play.

However, it cannot be easy when some of the decisions that have gone against them have seemed so obviously wrong.

But the PGMOL have now claimed that it is only the Ashley Young foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi that they feel should have been overturned at Goodison Park.

The former Liverpool player has been speaking in his latest column for Caught Offside where he has hit out at Forest fans for the response he got in suggesting VAR had got it right against Everton.

“So after I got pelters from Forest fans last week after having the temerity to say I didn’t think Forest had three penalty shouts against Everton, we’ve finally had the independent panel (three former players and coaches plus a PGMOL and Premier League representative) judgement on the decisions,” Collymore said.

“No penalty for Gio Reyna going down too easily, as I said. Check. No penalty for Ashley Young handball as his arm was in a natural position, as I said. Check. And lastly, the panel concluded that Young on Callum Hudson Odoi was a penalty, but…

“The Premier League then released the audio of the Young / Hudson Odoi incident and to be honest, I still, like Sturt Atwell, think it was a tussle. A 50/50 instead of the conspiracy theory that he “wiped him out”.

“But I’ll take the L on the last one and be happy, because, as once Meatloaf said — two outta three ain’t bad!”

Forest don’t have time to get wrapped up in anymore VAR controversy

With just three games remaining and nine points still to play for this season, Forest have to block out any noise surrounding the club.

Top flight football is on the line over these coming weeks and any distractions could well cause a slip up in their final games.

Evangelos Marinakis is expected to take action if Forest are to go down, but that is something that will be assessed at the end of the season.

Forest know fine well that decisions have gone against them this season. What can they do about it right now? Nothing.

This isn’t to say Forest should not raise their concerns over the long-term about the performances of the officials and usage of VAR, however, now is simply not the time.

Nuno’s side have some winnable fixtures to play, but with just a one point advantage over Luton Town – who also have favourable fixtures – they will need all their focus on the upcoming games.
