After Will Hughes saw his contract extended earlier this week, now another Crystal Palace player has triggered a one-year extension.

This past week has seen contract expiries become a hotly debated topic around Crystal Palace.

With a substantial list of players having their contracts expiring in June, Palace have seen two of these players now trigger extensions over the past week.

Joel Ward triggers Crystal Palace contract extension

After Hughes’ extension, it seems now that club captain Joel Ward has also triggered an extension after his latest appearance.

It comes according to a report by the South London Press that the 34-year-old has triggered a one-year extension at Selhurst Park.

It has been triggered after Ward featured 25 times in the Premier League for the Eagles.

This is another smart move by Dougie Freedman and the Palace Chiefs as Ward has shown he’s capable of featuring and playing a part for Glasner.

This not to mention he’s also a leader and these qualities are vital in the squad which could see so much change over the next few months.

Which players are still set to depart for free this summer?

With Hughes and Ward now staying for another year, there are just six players who are set to depart for free on June 30th.

Of these names, Jeffrey Schlupp is the one most likely to get an extension considering he’s become a useful tool in the squad.

This leaves Jairo Riedewald, James Tomkins, Nathaniel Clyne, Nathan Ferguson and Remi Matthews as players who could potentially depart.

Clyne is another who could possibly sign a new deal as he’s found a new home in the back three for Glasner.
