Ex Man United star says Moyes is better than Fergie and he played under both

An ex Man United star has said West Ham boss David Moyes is better than Sir Alex Ferguson and he played under both.

West Ham boss David Moyes spent the best part of two decades building his reputation before taking over Manchester United.

Following in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson, it was in tatters within six months.

After ill-fated spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland, it has only been his work at West Ham, over two separate spells, that has helped Moyes restore it.

Now, four-and-a-half years into his second Hammers spell – and 10 since he was sacked by Man United – Moyes is facing being out of work once more.

Moyes’ West Ham redemption after Man United woes

Moyes is not alone in failing to get anywhere close to Sir Alex at Manchester United. The Red Devils are even said to be considering yet another managerial change in search of progress.

That’s what West Ham fans want to see with their team if – or more likely when – Moyes departs as his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Not necessarily off the pitch but on it, where Hammers supporters have grown increasingly irritated and bored of the Scot’s risk averse philosophy and style.

Moyes was always on a hiding to nothing replacing Fergie at Old Trafford.

Claims emerged at the time and since that he was chewed up by some Manchester United stars who felt he could not hold a candle to Ferguson.

Well one former star clearly doesn’t agree.

Ex Man United star says Moyes is better than Sir Alex

An ex Man United star says West Ham boss Moyes is better than Sir Alex Ferguson and he played under both.

Former Manchester United, Everton and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard has been speaking about his career.

In an emotional address Howard made his astonishing claim about West Ham’s manager, despite being signed by – and playing under – Sir Alex at Man United.

And it might just give West Ham majority owner David Sullivan – and some Hammers fans – food for thought. Even if Manchester United fans will undoubtedly wholeheartedly disagree with his sentiments.

“If Manchester United is the biggest football club in the world then Everton, without doubt, is the greatest,” Howard said.

‘I’d run through the gates of hell for Moyes’

“Everton is one of the best things that ever happened to me in my life. I’m so very proud to be an Evertonian and what that means and how much (a part of) the fabric of the club that I am.

“David Moyes is the greatest manager I ever played for.

“I stand before you today to tell you that if he asked me to run through the gates of hell seven days a week, I’d smash through them every single day. Because that’s how great he was.

“He instilled in me leadership, accountability, responsibility, taught me to be mature. I grew up into the person that I’d always hoped I’d be playing for David Moyes.”

Are West Ham about to make a big mistake?

Are West Ham about to make a big mistake letting Moyes go?

He has dragged West Ham up by their bootstraps from a team battling relegation to three consecutive years of European football, a major trophy and their best ever Premier League points total.

Could the Hammers face their own mini Man United crisis replacing the only manager to bring them silverware in the last 44 years?

That decision rests squarely at the feet of Sullivan and co now.

And West Ham can’t afford to end up like Man United, working their way through a succession of managers trying to find what they once had.
