'He's brave': Jason Cundy shares what he really loves about £30m Chelsea man after watching him vs West Ham

Chelsea beat West Ham United emphatically today.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s men won 5-0, with their first three goals coming in the first half.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Noni Madueke were the Chelsea players who put their side 3-0 up.

Nicolas Jackson then grabbed a brace, making it 5-0 and an utterly embarrassing day out for West Ham.

The Blues have now really put the pressure on Manchester United, who need at least a draw against Crystal Palace tomorrow if they want to return to the last European football place.

Jason Cundy shares what he loves about £30m Chelsea player

It was a really good team performance by Chelsea, with the attackers particularly impressing.

That includes Madueke, and former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy discussed what he really likes about the winger during the game.

Discussing Madueke while on commentary duty for the Blues’ official website (05/05/2024 at 14:09), Cundy said: “What I love is that he will take players on. He commits players and at times, he will give the ball away, but then we just saw the other side of him.

“That’s exactly what I’m talking about; is that [Lucas] Paqueta who brings him down? Yes, it is. And again, he’s brave. He takes players on.”

Just how brave is Noni Madueke in one-v-ones?

Madueke is absolutely fearless and the stats back it up.

As per FBref, going into today’s game against West Ham, Madueke had averaged 3.67 successful take-ons per 90 minutes. It puts him in the 95th percentile among wingers for that category.

The England U21 international really is not afraid to have a go at his full-back. In the Premier League, there probably are not too many wide men who are as good in one-v-one situations as he is, if any at all.

For Madueke, it is now about consistency, and that should come with age. The former PSV Eindhoven man, who joined Chelsea in a £30m deal, is still just 22 years old.
