‘I think’… Jamie Redknapp explains what Cody Gakpo needs to do more often for Liverpool

Jamie Redknapp has detailed what he believes Cody Gakpo needs to do more often for Liverpool.

Sunday afternoon saw Liverpool return to their very best. For most of the game, Jurgen Klopp’s side were in control against Tottenham and dominated the match.

They found pockets of space and ways to control possession and played their way through the Tottenham defence.

For a change, they also found a way to put the ball in the back of the net and convert their chances into goals. In the end, that made all the difference for the Reds.

By the time made a futile comeback attempt, it was already too late.

Jamie Redknapp explains what Cody Gakpo needs to do more

One of the best players for Liverpool on Sunday afternoon was definitely Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman got himself a goal and an assist, and was very lively down the left-flank for Liverpool.

His brilliant cross proved to be the decisive moment in the game, finding Mohamed Salah at the back post to open the scoring.

Gakpo now has 15 goals and six assists for the season, which is a solid return. However, speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp revealed he still thinks Gakpo needs to be doing more.

“I think Cody has shown glimpses at Liverpool,” Redknapp said.

“I think his best game was against Manchester United when they beat them last year and I was like, ‘He looks like a real player’.

“But there hasn’t been enough of those moments. I think he sort of flipped-flopped between him and Nunez at times. He needs a sustained run of games. I think that it will help him.”

Can Arne Slot bring the best out of Cody Gakpo?

Gakpo has definitely been the best performer out of Liverpool’s attackers recently. In the last six Premier League games, he has four goal contributions, and his overall performances have been really good as well.

With a fellow Dutchman coming in to manage Liverpool next season, Slot may be able to get even more out of Gakpo.

Especially, if Gakpo can continue his excellent run of form recently, and as Redknapp said maintain consistency to his game.
