'It's just a shame': Shay Given admits he doesn't like what's being said about Newcastle right now

A difficult summer could lie ahead for Newcastle United.

For much of the PIF era at Newcastle, the news surrounding the club has been nothing short of truly exciting.

However, FFP limitations may mean the club have to sell a key player this summer.

While no one will seriously want to contemplate the idea of losing either Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes this summer, that is seemingly not the financial reality in which Newcastle operate.

Guimaraes, after all, has a release clause in his contract – which considerably weakens the club’s bargaining position.

Isak, meanwhile, is believed to be of interest to Arsenal.

The prospect of seeing either depart is truly gutting of course.

Indeed, club legend Shay Given isn’t happy about it at all

Shay Given does not like what’s being said about Newcastle right now

The former Toon goalkeeper was speaking to The Sun and talked of how much of a “shame” it was that there is so much talk in regard to them leaving.

“It’s just a shame we’re not talking about who Newcastle are going to buy this summer because of the wealth of the owners,” he said.

“Instead we’re talking about who might be sold and that leaves a sour taste in the mouth of fans.”

Who Newcastle would prefer to sell – Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes

Clearly, neither player would be leaving in an ideal world.

Still, it seems the club already have something of an idea on who they would rather sell – if they absolutely had to.

90 Min reported earlier this month that it was in factGuimaraes who Newcastle would rather sell, were they forced into it.

With Isak in such a good form and strikers hard to come by, there is some sense to that. Again, it would be impossible to put a positive spin on Guimaraes leaving but those behind the scenes at the club are thought to have already accepted it as a possibility.
