Report: Player 'probably' leaving is happy that Newcastle want to sign him after just one meeting

Newcastle United are, it seems, already making plans for potential signings this summer.

Despite this truly turbulent season now being so close to the finish line, Newcastle still do not know what European competition they will be playing in next year, if any.

A top-six finish looks on the cards for the Toon, albeit Manchester United and Chelsea might have something to say about that. If they are in the Europa League, it’ll be some achievement from Eddie Howe given all that’s gone on this season.

The Conference League isn’t to be sniffed at either but, naturally, finishing outside of the top six would be disappointing.

Still, even amid the uncertainty, it seems the club and their PIF owners are looking to sign a new defender.

That was reportedly the plan even before long-term injuries to both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles after last summer’s budget didn’t stretch as far as signing a centre-back.

Bournemouth’sLloyd Kelly is thought to be of interest, along with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.

While the 26-year-old isn’t believed to have yet made up his mind on his next move as his contract in west London winds down, his manager Marco Silva has already admitted he “probably” won’t be staying at Craven Cottage.

Adarabioyo is said to be leaning towards a move to St James’ Park and fresh insight has now emerged.

Tosin Adarabioyo is now very pleased Newcastle want to sign him

According to CaughtOffside, both Chelsea and AC Milan also hold an interest in the former Manchester City youngster.

West Ham, Man United and Tottenham are also believed to be in the running but talks appear to have gone well with Newcastle.

They suggest that the defender was “pleased” with their initial meeting.

How much Tosin Adarabioyo wants in wages ahead of transfer

Interestingly, the report adds that Adarabioyo is looking for a salary of around £5m a year. That roughly equates to around £96k-per-week.

That could put him in the highest bracket at Newcastle, with only a few key players understood to be earning more.
