Wolves fans react to ‘concerning’ news emerging as Julen Lopetegui nears closer to a Premier League return

Wolves fans have had their say on Julen Lopetegui’s impending return to the Premier League at West Ham with many citing their concerns with the news.

After almost a year out Lopetegui seems to have finally found a new club. The former Wolves manager left the Molineux side at the start of the campaign after a troubled pre-season.

This quickly paved the way for Gary O’Neil to take the helm where he has comfortably guided Wolves to Premier League survival.

However, the former Real Madrid manager has struggled to find work since his departure from Wolverhampton. Lopetegui was reportedly close to joining AC Milan last month. Yet, these talks did not lead to the role.

Now, it seems that Lopetegui may have finally found his new club with a return to the Premier League.

On Monday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lopetegui has agreed terms to join West Ham next season. This has prompted a mixed reaction from many Wolves fans about their former manager, with some fans showing concern with the news.

Lopetegui’s departure from Wolves in pre-season caused many of the Molineux faithful to hold mixed opinions on their former boss.

The Spaniard came in when the club were bottom of the league and comfortably guided them to safety. Yet, he ended up leaving Wolves in a worse mess than he found them, departing days before their trip to Man United with relegation looking certain.

Now, after O’Neil has worked wonders with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Joao Gomes, many wonder if Lopetegui was such a ‘great’ manager after all.

With the likelihood that the Spaniard returns to Molineux next season in the opposition dugout, many still hold a grudge.

However, despite the anger still held towards the manager for his departure, many hold their concerns surrounding the appointment. Lopetegui still holds a high reputation worldwide and this could see some Wolves players push for a move to the London Stadium this summer.

While the move may strike concerns that some players could leave to go to West Ham this summer, it seems unlikely.

Many of Lopetegui’s signings at Wolves have performed far better under O’Neil. Cunha was considered a flop at Wolves until the Englishman turned his Molineux career around.

Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes have also become stars at Wolves, with the former a contender to win Wolves’ Player of the Season.

Wolves have moved past Lopetegui and have become highly successful for it. If the Spaniard wants any of his former players, he will no doubt have to pay a high price.
