Fenland martial arts school prospers at the ESKA Kata Championships in Norwich

The Samurai Karate School sent a team of 21 to the recent ESKA Kata Championships held in Norwich.

It was the biggest team they have sent out with six students competing for the first time.

The medal haul was amazing with the school bringing home 15 medals to take Team Samurai's medal tally to more than 50 so far in 2024.

The school's first-time competitors did amazingly well.

Nate Amps, Harry Cheng and Henry Askew took a clean sweep of gold, silver, and bronze in the boys under-10, 10th to 7th Kyu section.

Meanwhile, sister and brother Samuela and Salvador took gold and silver in the mixed 10 to 13 category.

Dawn Styles and Janis Vilkajs claimed gold and silver in the adults' mixed section, with Styles adding a bronze in the pairs category.

WUKF World champion Abigail Swiderek was pushed hard in her section and produced an amazing performance of Heian Godan to take another gold.

The squad is getting better and better. Our dedicated squad training and training with the AKA GB National squad has helped them hit new levels of achievement.

Sensei Steve King said: "I am so proud of these guys and girls and all the hard work they are putting in along with trusting the guidance and coaching is paying off with the results.

"This is a great way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Samurai Karate School in 2024 and these are exciting times for us."
