Kevin Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor whose career was derailed by multiple allegations of sexual abuse, made a surprise endorsement of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday.
In a Twitter post, Spacey explained why he supported Kennedy, an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist who is running what Democratic critics say is a spoiler bid aimed at harming President Joe Biden.
"There’s a lot I can learn from this man," Spacey explained. "When the world turned its back on me, Bobby leaned in. He’s a formidable fighter for justice and a loyal friend that’s not afraid to stand up for what he believes."

The world "turned its back" on Spacey after dozens of men who are significantly younger than he accused him of sexual misconduct.
Although Spacey was acquitted by a jury on sexual assault charges in London last year, the multiple on-the-record allegations leveled against him have nonetheless left him with a significantly damaged reputation.

Given this, many of Spacey's followers were quick to pile on with jokes about what his endorsement would really do for RFK Jr.'s longshot presidential bid.
"Kevin spacey doing everything he can to help Biden!" joked physician Howard Forman.
"Biden must be crushed not to have got such a sought-after endorsement..." cracked Sky News journalist Max Preston.
"RFK Jr: The Candidate of Jeffrey Epstein and Kevin Spacey," wrote Decision Desk HQ contributor Nick Field.
"Strong endorsement for RFK Jr!" wrote former Republican National Committee spokesman Tim Miller. "Let’s get this creep out on the trail!"
"A powerful endorsement, but I’m gonna stay undecided until Weinstein and Cosby weigh in," wrote actor Ben Zelevansky.
One anonymous account, meanwhile, simply replied to Spacey by asking, "Isn’t he a little old for you, Kev?"
