What Oliver Glasner said about Roy Hodgson straight after Crystal Palace 4-0 Manchester United

Crystal Palace have now made even more history under Oliver Glasner – who only replaced Roy Hodgson as recently as February.

The Eagles scored four goals in the opening half of a Premier League game for the first time ever under the Austrian during that 5-2 win over West Ham.

Furthermore, the man from Salzburg has coached Jean-Philippe Mateta into a goalscoring machine, and the Frenchman has now broken a record for scoring in six consecutive games at Selhurst Park.

No Crystal Palace player has ever done that in the Premier League.

After more history was made in completing a Premier League double over Manchester United for the first time, Oliver Glasner gave Roy Hodgson a mention…

What Oliver Glasner said about Roy Hodgson

Well, after being told that Crystal Palace had just completed a first ever Premier League double over Manchester United, the 49-year-old shared a classy response.

Nick Godwin of the BBC quotes Glasner as saying: “Well all credit to Roy Hodgson. He did 50% of the job and he did it at Old Trafford.”

What a response.

Few managers in Europe would deflect the spotlight from themselves after hammering Manchester United by four goals to nil, but these comments simply show the humility of Glasner, and how selfless he is.

Crystal Palace have struck gold

Despite winning the UEFA Europa League at Eintracht Frankfurt, Glasner was not exactly a household name when he arrived in south London.

He is – however – starting to become exactly that after a mesmeric run of five games without a loss, which includes convincing wins over Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle and Manchester United.

Even the 1-1 draw against Fulham arguably should have been a win, as Michael Olise, Chris Richards and Odsonne Edouard all squandered great chances.

Nevertheless, these past five matches have not been lucky by any means. Glasner has proven that he can coach a high level of football very quickly, while also transforming players who some felt were holding the side back, like Will Hughes for example.

The Englishman has even earned a contract extension thanks to his performances.

As things stand, it looks like Steve Parish has genuinely struck gold by hiring Glasner – long may this current run continue.
