Wisbech schoolgirl Shyla Brown raises £4,092 with 100-mile bike ride challenge and fun day for Peckover School classmate

A schoolgirl clocked up the miles as she completed her fundraising challenge followed by a fun day.

Shyla Brown, nine, has raised £4,092 to help her classmate and best friend at Peckover School in Wisbech, Harrison Dodkin.

Harrison and his eldest brother Finley have both been diagnosed with Battens Disease, strand CLN3, a life-limiting and degenerative neurological disease that will not only take their sight, their memory, and their physical abilities but will also take them from their parents and middle brother Arthur too soon.

The family has been running a Pedal4Memories appeal aimed at raising money to help the boys and their parents Sarah and Ben make memories.

Shyla had set herself the target of riding 100 miles on her bike to raise money for the brothers.

On Saturday, starting at 6am, she completed 10 laps of riding from Newton to Gorefield, and then Leverington, taking her nine hours and 51 minutes.

As well as taking on this challenge, she organised a fun day yesterday, for the whole family at The Secret Garden in Wisbech to help raise more money, with stalls, bouncy castles, live entertainment, and food.

Blaire Simpson, Shyla’s mum, said: “The support was amazing. We had cake sales, we had raffles and so much support going on during the day.

“It was just amazing.

“Waking up on Sunday morning we all thought she'd be sore and aching but nope, she was running around like she hadn't even done it.”
