Luis Suarez now shares honest verdict on if he wants to beat Lionel Messi to the MLS Golden Boot

Luis Suarez has now shared if he wants to beat Inter Miami teammate Lionel Messi to the 2024 MLS Golden Boot award.

The veteran attackers both lead the goalscoring charts with ten goals each this season, with Suarez only just entering top spot with Messi after scoring a hattrick on the weekend against the New York Red Bulls in a 6-2 win.

With Messi bagging a record five assists, though, it was the Argentine who again won all the plaudits, with Suarez himself admitting that he saw something from his teammate that he had never seen before.

Suarez admits he and Messi don’t have a rivalry over who wins the Golden Boot

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Suarez revealed that he and Messi do not have a personal competition against each other to see who will become top scorer, with the striker only focused on winning with Inter Miami.

Given how many goals the pair have scored together during their FC Barcelona days, it’s perhaps no surprise that the duo are now solely focused on winning at Inter Miami, with Messi and Suarez eager to clinch silverware this season.

Suarez said when asked if he wants to beat Messi to the MLS Golden Boot: “No, no. It’s not like that. We played together for a long time at Barcelona, and it was always like this, each helping the other. In 2015-16, Leo and Neymar helped me win the Golden Boot.

“The competition is to see your teammate happy and work together to win. Note that [Saturday], Leo broke a league mark with five assists, something that had not been seen before, and that shows what kind of teammate he is.”

Messi and Suarez have their priorities with Inter Miami in check

Friendly competition between teammates can be a useful tool to fire up players who need that extra boost to get the best out of them, yet such a method isn’t needed for Messi and Suarez.

The legendary attackers have been around long enough to know what’s needed to get the best out from each other, and Suarez’s comments show that the pair have their priorities with Inter Miami in check.

As we know, the pair seem determined to win silverware for Inter Miami this season, and if Messi and Suarez can stay fit and maintain this level of form, the Herons will be cruising to MLS Cup come the end of the year.
