'He hasn't touched the ball': Paul Merson says one Tottenham player has been so poor recently

Paul Merson has delivered his verdict on one Tottenham Hotspur player who has been struggling with form recently.

Spurs have lost four games on the bounce in the Premier League. They have been on a shocking run of form and are almost certain to miss out on the top four.

One player, in particular, hasn’t looked like himself for a few months now. Merson has now had his say on him.

Paul Merson makes claim on James Maddison’s form since his return from injury

Tottenham signed James Maddison from Leicester City in a £40 million deal in the summer of 2023 (BBC).

The Englishman was viewed by many as a terrific signing for Spurs. People saw him as the missing piece in Tottenham‘s midfield.

Maddison started the season in fantastic style. He scored three goals and provided five assists in his first nine games in the Premier League, and he was near the top of many people’s signing of the season list at the time.

However, the 27-year-old suffered an ankle injury in November that kept him out of action for over two months.

Since then, Maddison has played 14 times in the Premier League for Tottenham and has scored just one goal and provided two assists.

His form has been really poor recently.

Speaking about the Tottenham and the Englishman, Paul Merson wrote in his column on Sky Sports: “He (Ange Postecoglou) has got to change next season.

“Tottenham fans are getting restless already; their season ranks on stopping Arsenal winning the league now. You can’t keep on living like that, and the players have got to stand up as well.

“Maddison’s come back from injury, he hasn’t touched the ball. It’s not just the manager, he did have injuries, but you can’t just keep on doing what you’re doing.

“I like him, I like the way they play, but it’s no good if you’re a fan.”

Ange Postecoglou needs to give James Maddison’s teammate a chance

Tottenham need to change something after losing four games in a row in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou has tried switching things around in the last two games, bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur against Liverpool and using Dejan Kulusevski in the number 10 role against Chelsea.

Those changes just didn’t work, so we feel it’s time Postecoglou gives Giovani Lo Celso a chance from the start when Tottenham take on Burnley at home.

The Argentine created three chances against Chelsea and Liverpool after coming off the bench despite playing just 11 and 15 minutes respectively.

He has looked really good, and with Maddison looking nothing like his previous self, we think Lo Celso deserves a start.
