Ex-Apple employee explains which products you actually need, and the ones to avoid

From iPhones to MacBooks and AirTags, Apple is always coming out with new products, but which ones do you actually need to buy?

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but a former Apple employee has revealed the products you should splurge on – and the ones to avoid.

Apple products you actually need

In a video on TikTok, Tyler Morgan, who used to work at the tech giant in Los Angeles and now shares his expertise online, went through the Apple website and said the only products actually worth buying are a Mac, iPhone, AirPods and AirTags.

If you buy these four products, you’ve covered all bases, with a computer, phone and pair of headphones. The AirTags are a great buy too, Apple’s small tracking devices that can help you find personal objects like keys and suitcases.

He then went a little more in-depth into the Macs, saying the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac are all great, but you only need to choose one. Morgan said the Mac Mini is also “good,” but the Mac Studio is the “best computer Apple makes”.

Moving onto iPhones, the ex-Apple employee told people not to buy the iPhone 15 or 15 Pro Max, saying you may as well wait for the 16. However, he said the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are great choices, with a good camera and USBC.

Morgan added that you should avoid the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus too, because they are just a “copy” of the iPhone 13 and have the same chip. The TikTok user also recommended not to purchase the iPhone SE.

The ones you should avoid buying

In the same video, he listed some products you should avoid buying altogether, because you don’t need them. Most controversially, this included the iPad and Apple Watch.

He explained that in his opinion, you should only get an iPad if you buy an Apple Pencil too, as that’s the “only thing that makes it unique”. Otherwise, you can just use an iPhone or Mac for all the same features.

Morgan claimed the iPad Pro isn’t worth the money, and the iPad 10th Gen and iPad Air are virtually the same – so you should choose the iPad 10th Gen if you really want a tablet.

Other products he said simply aren’t worth buying include the Apple Vision Pro, Apple TV 4K, HomePod and most of the Accessories, including phone cases and watch straps.

He also described the Studio Display monitor as an “expensive piece of s**t” and the Mac Pro as an “overpriced cheese grater,” and told people not to purchase either of them.
