Lucas Moura issues heartwarming Tottenham message on anniversary of sensational Ajax victory

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Lucas Moura has now issued a message on the anniversary of that victory over Ajax.

It is now five years on from that famous night in Amsterdam which saw Tottenham book themselves a spot in the final of the 2018/19 Champions League.

Although the final proved to be hugely underwhelming as Liverpool got their hands on the trophy, that night at the Johan Cruyff Arena will last in the memories of Spurs fans forever.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side look like they will have to wait another season before they can earn themselves a spot in the Champions League.

However, perhaps they could create their own memories if they are to secure their spot in the Europa League for next season.

Looking back on that night in Amsterdam, Moura has now issued a message to the Tottenham fans on the fifth anniversary of the game.

What Lucas Moura said five years on after his Ajax heroics

The Brazilian’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came to an end last season after spending four-and-a-half years in north London.

And he ended his time at Spurs in stunning style with an incredible solo-goal in the dying minutes of their victory against Leeds United.

But the moment he will always be remembered best for is that hat-trick he scored against Ajax in the second-half of the Champions League semi final.

Ajax fans may have had their bags packed for the final in Madrid come half time of the second leg against Spurs as they held a 3-0 aggregate lead.

But what Moura was able to produce was nothing short of legendary stuff and he will always be welcomed back to Spurs as a result

To mark the anniversary, Tottenham posted on their Instagram account a video of Moura’s winning goal on that famous night.

And the Brazilian was quick to respond as he issued a message to the fans on the anniversary of his Champions League heroics.

“I will never forget this moment, absolutely magic! Thanks God, thanks Spurs, love you! COYS,” he replied.

Although Moura’s time at Tottenham could have provided more consistency than he offered, his commitment to the club could never be faltered.

What Lucas Moura did with his Ajax hat-trick match ball

Having scored a hat-trick inside one half of a Champions League semi final to send Spurs to the final, Moura has one of the club’s greatest pieces of memorabilia in his house.

And on the back of the game in Amsterdam, the Brazilian posted a joking video of him taking the match ball all around his house with him.

Moura returned 39 goals and 27 assists in over 200 appearances for Spurs across all competitions which may slightly be on the low side for a player of his quality.

However, after scoring those three goals in Amsterdam, he etched his name in Tottenham folklore for eternity – regardless of whatever he done in the years following.
