Leeds fans hijack big West Ham vote and the result is hilarious

Leeds United fans have hijacked a big West Ham player of the year vote and the result is absolutely hilarious.

There’s no real love lost between West Ham and Leeds United.

But sometimes you just have to hold your hands up when a rival ‘does you like a kipper’ so to speak.

It’s about that time of year when voting is taking place to decide who will be crowned Hammer of the Year for West Ham.

Leeds’ own player of the year vote may have to wait a touch longer as the Elland Road outfit face having to win the Championship play-offs to join West Ham back in the Premier League.

Phillips took scenic route from Leeds to West Ham

Just as West Ham had to watch homegrown midfield hero Declan Rice move on to pastures new, so too did Leeds United when it came to Kalvin Phillips.

Little did the two clubs know Phillips would end up as one of Rice’s “replacements” at West Ham. In theory at least.

In January the Hammers signed the ex Leeds hero on loan from Man City for the rest of the season.

It had been a long time in the making. Departing West Ham boss David Moyes had chased Phillips for two years, dating back to his time at Leeds.

In the end Moyes’ insistence on what has been an unmitigated disaster of a signing was one of two big reasons David Sullivan decided to let him go%20Refusing%20to%20agree%20to,the%20West%20Ham%20first%20team.).

West Ham are just thankful they only agreed to a loan deal with no obligation to buy.

Leeds fans hijack West Ham player of the year vote

Jarrod Bowen is the hot favourite to be named this season’s Hammer of the Year.

But a poll among West Ham’s fans has not gone as expected.

Leeds fans hijacked a West Ham player of the year vote and the result is hilarious.

A fan account on X called West Ham Xtra posted a Hammer of the Year poll over the weekend.

But it was soon getting a lot more votes than they had bargained for.

In the end around 13,000 votes were cast. And it was clearly a Leeds hijack because most of them were for Phillips.

Hilarious result is highlight of Phillips’ loan

With 60 per cent of the vote to Bowen’s 35 per cent, Phillips recorded what is probably biggest achievement of his dismal six-month loan spell.

“Nearly 13,000 votes – Leeds have done us here lads,” West Ham Xtra said alongside a screenshot of the poll result.

“Congratulations Kalvin Phillips.”

Phillips angered West Ham fans once again with his latest faux pas after the recent 5-2 drubbing at Crystal Palace.

We called on the Hammers to phone Man City and terminate Phillips’ loan when he was seen laughing and joking on the pitch with Palace’s Eberechi Eze after the game without a care in the world.

After laughing and joking with Eze while some of his crestfallen teammates went over to the West Ham fans to offer their apologies, Phillips then liked a video posted by Eze showing him destroying the Hammers.

Phillips has been West Ham’s worst signing since Roberto.

But it’s hard not to laugh at what is a brilliant bit of trolling from Leeds.

Phillips has actually been linked with a return to his boyhood club in the summer, if they can get themselves promoted.

Although if Phillips does not get his act together he may find the Championship is the highest level he can play at.
