TalkSPORT man now says Tottenham summer signing has now gone ‘backwards’ under Ange Postecoglou

TalkSPORT pundit Alex Crook has now claimed one of Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings has gotten worse under Ange Postecoglou.

The last few months have seen Ange Postecoglou‘s first season at Tottenham take a slight turn for the worse.

Spurs started the season better than anyone could have ever expected with the Australian manager winning the first three consecutive Manager of the Month awards.

However, injuries have hindered Tottenham massively this season and there has been a real struggle for some players to replicate the form they displayed earlier in the season.

James Maddison is the prime example of this. The midfielder won August’s Player of the Month award, but after his injury in November, he has simply not looked like the same player.

But there is another of Tottenham’s summer signings which the TalkSPORT man thinks has gone backwards under Postecoglou.

TalkSPORT pundit slams Tottenham signing as getting worse

Postecoglou’s two transfer windows at the club have largely been very positive with the Australian able to transform the starting XI which he inherited.

Players like Heung-min Son have remained at the club, but the arrival of Micky van de Ven is a good example of how Postecoglou has put his mark on the side.

Most of the signings have payed off with only Alejo Veliz looking to be a really questionable decision made by the club.

This should give Daniel Levy a lot of confidence going into this summer in providing Postecoglou with the funds he needs to improve this side.

But it is not just the summer singing of Maddison which Crook feels has struggled to show his best in recent weeks at Tottenham.

The TalkSPORT pundit has taken aim at the Tottenham goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, who he feels has really gotten worse after a promising start to the season.

“I think their run of form is concerning. Since that Chelsea game [November] the number of goals they’re conceding the drop off in performance levels; James Madison I think is the biggest example of that but Son’s not been the same player in the second half of the season either,” he said.

“The goalkeeper, I think has gone backwards having a really good start to life in English football.”

Alex Crook thinks Ange Postecoglou is to blame for this run of bad form

Postecoglou has not even completed a full season of Premier League football and Crook is weighing in on the Australian’s recent struggles.

Tottenham have embarked on a long-term project with Postecoglou who has had just two transfer windows and one season to improve this side.

He has certainly done that, but the TalkSPORT man continued to slam the 58-year-old as the problem in Tottenham’s recent form.

“I just think they’re too easy to play against. You know the number of times in that first hour that Liverpool found themselves four against three/four against four. You can’t go to Anfield and play like that,” he said.

It has to be said, Crook does have a track record of speaking negatively of Postecoglou with the reporter taking a personal swipe at the Spurs boss earlier in the year.

Given Crook is a Manchester United fan, perhaps he should be more concerned about the job which Erik ten Hag is doing at Old Trafford…
