'A phenomenon': Todd Boehly hails Chelsea player he hopes becomes a household name in the United States

Todd Boehly has shared it is his hope that one current player in the current Chelsea squad will grow into a household name in the United States.

Todd Boehly, the American businessman and Chelsea chairman, has been speaking this week about the progress at Stamford Bridge.

He’s singled out one individual in Mauricio Pochettino’s playing squad for his impact on the pitch, which he suggests could lead to marketable rewards off of it.

Chelsea no longer have the pull of United States star Christian Pulisic for the American market, but do have one of the Premier League’s major breakout stars.

Todd Boehly hails Chelsea player

Boehly has delivered a glowing praise on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer for an incredible debut season at Stamford Bridge. With only three games left in the season, Palmer sits on 24 goals and 13 assists from 42 Blues appearances.

The 22-year-old attacking playmaker has now received the backing of a senior figure at Chelsea.

“Hopefully, Cole Palmer will become a household name (here) soon. He’s been a phenomenon for us and so we’re thinking hard about how we continue to expand our brand in the United States. That’s ultimately a priority as well,” Boehly said, as quoted by The Athletic.

Cole Palmer not the only Blues signing that’s value for money

It’s well documented that Chelsea’s spending in the transfer market under this ownership has been a bit wild, but it’s worth highlighting that there’s actually still been some decent buys amid the chaos.

Of course, Palmer joining in a £40m deal (Sky Sports) from Manchester City last summer goes down as the top moment from the owners so far. It’ll take something quite special to beat that signing, too!

Elsewhere, Malo Gusto’s signing for £26m (Sky Sports) from Lyon looks like a serious bargain. The young right-back has been a superb deputy for Reece James this year.

Also, the recent form of Blues attacker Noni Madueke is highlighting the value in his £29m signing (Sky Sports) from PSV Eindhoven. The right-winger has two goals and two assists in his last three league appearances during this purple patch.
