Report: Newcastle named as frontrunners to sign 'top-quality' £30m player linked with Chelsea

Newcastle United have been named as the frontrunners to sign a Premier League player recently linked with Chelsea.

There’s rumours in the transfer rumour mill that suggests Chelsea and Newcastle may go head-to-head for a potential new signing this summer.

As it stands, the two clubs are battling it out to qualify for Europe. With three league games left each, sixth-placed Newcastle are only two points above seventh-placed Chelsea.

Will the pull of European football next season be a deciding factor for transfer targets?

Newcastle frontrunners for Chelsea target

The Evening Standard has claimed that Newcastle are considered “frontrunners” to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

It is explained that the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who’s lost his starting position to David Raya this season, is set to leave the Gunners this summer to search for regular first-team football again. He’s made just 11 appearances across all competitions this season for Mikel Arteta’s side.

This comes amid speculation that Chelsea also like the Gunners gloveman, who cost £30m (Sky Sports) from Sheffield United back in 2021.

LondonWorld recently reported that Chelsea have Ramsdale on their transfer shortlist for the summer because he ticks several boxes for them when it comes to data.

Interestingly, speaking via OptusSport back in January, Mark Schwarzer suggested that “top-quality” player Ramsdale should join Chelsea.
