Report: Club to activate £12.4 million clause to buy West Ham man

One West Ham United man will be off on a permanent basis in the summer it seems.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be an extremely important one for West Ham, with soon-to-be Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui facing a big rebuild.

The Spaniard apparently has grand plans, with six new signings lined up, but there will be some outgoings as well.

Certain players at the club just aren’t good enough for us, if we are going to kick on to the next level.

David Moyes has built an incredibly unbalanced squad at the London Stadium.

As a result, Lopetegui will need to get his summer business absolutely spot on. In order to sign six top quality players, he will definitely need to bolster his war-chest by moving on some of those on the outskirts of the first-team squad.

And it seems like one player in particular is as good as gone already…

Selling some of the deadwood will be nearly as important as bringing in five or six elite players this summer.

Lopetegui’s summer budget is about to be boosted by quite a substantial fee.

That’s because Lyon are ready to activate the £12.4 million option they have to sign Said Benrahma permanently this summer, according to a report from Competition.dz.

Lopetegui apparently has no plans to keep the 28-year-old, but even if he did, that decision will seemingly be taken out of his hands anyway.

He has three goals and three assists to his name in just 13 games for Lyon so far (Transfermarkt), and he seems to be enjoying his football so much more than he did at the London Stadium.

Said Benrahma clearly doesn’t have any kind of future at West Ham, and if we get £12.4 million for him this summer, that won’t be a bad deal all things considered.
