'Probably': Gabriel Agbonlahor has worrying prediction about Everton for next season after takeover twist

Everton’s takeover has commanded plenty of attention in recent weeks, after relatively little having been published across mainstream media beforehand.

As Farhad Moshiri passionately lobbied to hand the club over to the shady 777 Partners, little fuss was kicked up outside of Goodison Park.

But now that outlets like The Times have started to pick this story up, traction is building that could finally culminate in the conclusion after eight months of waiting.

Even Gabby Agbonlahor has now weighed in on the situation, which he thinks could have dire repercussions for the next few campaigns…

Gabby Agbonlahor delivers 777 Partners assessment

Speaking on talkSPORT earlier this morning, the former Aston Villa striker was asked for his thoughts on Everton’s dire takeover situation.

It is a story that has dominated headlines for all the wrong reasons, once again plunging the Toffees into turmoil despite having secured Premier League safety last month, way ahead of schedule.

With 777 Partners seemingly set to see their efforts to assume control of the club crash and burn, Agbonlahor fears the worst for Everton and its fans.

He told Alan Brazil: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice for Sean Dyche if he could sort that squad out, bring in some players, get rid of a couple but he probably won’t be able to now because of all this that he has got to deal with.

‘These fans as well, they must be thinking give us a break, sort the ownership out and let us know where we stand. It will probably drag on over the summer. Start of the season, Everton will probably be in a bad way.’

Everton have a landmark season coming up

With potentially new ownership and hopefully no more PSR deductions to come, next season could prove to be a truly historic one for Everton.

And that is even without remembering that it will be the last campaign spent at Goodison Park before moving to the Bramley-Moore Dock.

Everything seems to have been building to this term, with the hope that once that stadium switchover is complete the club will be in a far stronger position to enjoy greater sustainability and stability going into the future.

So, should Sean Dyche be able to keep his squad together and snag a few sneaky cut-price additions, there is hope that a solid mid-table finish could easily be attained.

It is nothing less than these fans have deserved, and a year of obscurity might be the perfect end to the past three years of torture.

It would not be a grand triumphant send-off for Goodison Park, but a necessary one towards building a better future for the Toffees.
