N.J. mom charged in death of her 6-month-old son

A 29-year-old Cape May County woman has been charged in the death of her 6-month old son following a lengthy investigation, officials said.

Lower Township police were called to Michelle Stanton’s home on the 200 East block of Wilde Avenue in the Villas section of the township on June 25, 2023 and found an unresponsive baby, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.

Emergency workers brought the boy — identified as Christian Carty — to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Authorities didn’t describe what led to the boy’s death.

Stanton was charged Thursday with endangering the welfare of a child and manslaughter. She was brought to the Cape May County jail but released later in the day, officials said.

Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.
