Troy Deeney reacts after ‘weird’ thing he has now heard about Tottenham fans

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has now taken aim at Tottenham Hotspur fans after what he has just heard.

Just three games remain now for Tottenham until their first season under Ange Postecoglou comes to a close.

Burnley await Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later today with three points much needed after four consecutive defeats.

However, next week will see a tricky fixture for the Lilywhites as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City come to town.

It is a fixture which has favoured Tottenham over recent years in the Premier League but a lot is likely to be resting on the result.

City are gunning for the Premier League title and now only face competition from Tottenham’s north London rivals.

Meanwhile, Spurs still have Europa League football to play for over their remaining games with Newcastle United picking up a lot of momentum in recent weeks.

But what Deeney has now heard about Tottenham has left him perplexed and has even seen him aim a dig at the fans.

What Troy Deeney has now said about Tottenham fans

Whatever happens over the final three games of the season, Spurs fans should have a lot of optimism about what lies ahead under Postecoglou.

The Australian has already admitted there will be changes made to the squad over the coming months with the backing of Daniel Levy.

European football is surely going to be back on the menu in north London next season and a new deal for Heung-min Son is being lined up.

However, Deeney has now questioned Tottenham fans over their negative approach to their game coming up on Tuesday against City.

Speaking to The Sun, the former Watford striker has not held back in his criticism regarding the hope from some Spurs fans for City to take three points.

“I know a few Tottenham fans who have told me they would love to see Ange Postecoglou put the kids out to face Manchester City on Tuesday night, so Arsenal can’t win the league,” he said.

“I have to be honest — it’s a weird take.”

“You hate another team so much that you want City to win it, again? Not a chance.”

Troy Deeney also took aim at the Tottenham players

After what had been a seriously impressive start to the campaign from Spurs, the players seem to have ran out of steam.

The 2023/24 campaign has fizzled out dramatically for Spurs with their hopes of a top-four finish being crushed in recent weeks.

However, it has still been a season of development with injuries playing a major part in the form coming off the boil since the turn of the year.

But Deeney has not held back on his criticism of Tottenham’s recent form but has admitted he could see them getting a result against City.

“They’re having a horrific end to the season. However, the players would never quit or give up during a game. I’m sure of it, regardless of the situation,” he said.

“Even last weekend, against Liverpool, they were 4-0 down and they still didn’t stop pushing and grabbed two goals.

“The sporting integrity, elite mentality and winning morals that have got them to this level will not allow them to not do it.”
