Nottingham Forest must target £30m-rated striker compared to Thomas Muller after survival - opinion

Nottingham Forest have secured their Premier League survival – just about – and now they must look to sign a striker they’ve tried to get before.

The Reds have finally done it. After weeks of doubt, it’s Premier League football for another season barring a mathematical miracle.

Now, plans can go into place for next season and after a hectic couple of summer transfer windows, things have to be smoother this time.

Forest have struggled for goals at different periods of this season and a striker has to be on the shortlist.

Taiwo Awoniyi has struggled to stay fit since he came to the City Ground, whilst Chris Wood isn’t getting any younger.

Now, speculation will inevitably start over who could come to the club and one man who has been linked before would be ideal.

Forest should target Maximilian Beier

It’s not been a season to remember but once again Forest have just about scraped over the line.

The campaign has been far from pretty and hopefully lessons can be learned once again.

Forest will have to cut their cloth accordingly this summer, with quality over quantity targeted instead.

Beier – compared to Thomas Muller – was linked with Forest during the January transfer window but Hoffenheim weren’t overly keen on a sale.

He is valued at around £30 million and it’s crystal clear that Forest will need to sell before they entertain such sizeable bids.

The 21-year-old looks like a great fit for Forest though and he’s enjoying a class campaign.

He’s scored 13 goals for Hoffenheim but has had Premier League interest previously and the interest could intensify.

Beier could light up the City Ground

This is exactly the type of signing that Forest fans could throw their weight behind.

Beier is young, would be hungry to succeed in a top league and would retain significant resale value.

Forest have to learn some lessons in the transfer market and if they can sell a player or two, Beier would definitely be affordable.

The challenge would be convincing Beier to come and play for a bottom-half Premier League team but that might not be too tricky.

Plenty of players have joined the squad from bigger clubs and Beier might view it as an opportunity he wants to grasp.

Forest need a striker ahead of the next Premier League campaign 13-goal striker Beier looks like he could yet improve as a player.

This might seem like an ambitious one for Forest but as the saying goes, if you don’t buy a ticket, you can’t win the raffle!
