Liverpool should try to sign 26-goal striker with 'killer instinct' to finally replace Roberto Firmino - opinion

Liverpool haven’t adequately replaced Roberto Firmino since his departure last summer, so here, TBR take a look at one striker they should look to sign.

The Reds outlaid £85m on Darwin Nunez in 2022 but it’s become pretty evident that he’s not quite at the level many expected.

So a striker could well be on the agenda for Arne Slot this summer, who is the rumoured man to replace Jurgen Klopp.

That said, he could bring one of his players with him.

Liverpool should try to sign Santiago Giminez

Santiago Gimenez only made the switch to European football in 2022, joining Feyenoord, but in his short time on the continent, he’s made a big impression.

In his first season at the Eredivisie outfit, he notched 28 goals and he’s continued that vein of form this year, netting 26 times.

Described as having a ‘killer instinct’, the 2001-born striker could be a realistic target for The Reds, as Slot could be the crucial bargaining chip.

Gimenez has a £60m valuation and Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be eyeing a move for him.

Santiago Giminez statistics

Gimenez’s statistics make for very impressive reading.

The 25-cap Mexico international ranks in the top two per cent for non-penalty goals compared to his positional peers across 14 leagues, as per FBref.

Further, he sits in the top 13 per cent for assists, which evinces he has far more to his game than just goals.

So all things considered, if Liverpool were to land Gimenez’s signature this summer, they’d be getting a well-polished finisher with excellent link-up play.
