Simon Jordan now claims Kai Havertz is a ‘modern-day’ version of one Arsenal legend

TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan has claimed Kai Havertz reminds him of a modern-day version of one of Arsenal’s greatest-ever players.

The German international has been one of Arsenal’s best performers this season having arrived last summer from Chelsea in a £65m deal, a transfer that caught a lot of people by surprise and immediately doubted the success of.

Despite this, Havertz has been nothing short of fantastic for Arsenal this season, with the attacking midfielder making the centre-forward position his own and performing well in big games that have helped the Gunners hugely in their Premier League title bid.

And Jordan has now likened Havertz to an Arsenal legend.

Havertz compared to Arsenal great Alan Smith by TalkSport pundit

Speaking on TalkSport, Jordan likened Havertz to Arsenal legend Alan Smith, who in seven years with the Gunners helped the north London side two first-division titles and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1993.

With 115 goals in all competitions for Arsenal, Smith is considered by many as one of Arsenal’s best ever players, and Havertz has now drawn comparisons with the former England international based of his performances this season.

Indeed, Havertz has surprised many by how well he has led the line for Arsenal this year, and there is now a chance that the Gunners could keep the 24-year-old as their main striker heading into the new season.

Graeme Souness initially said when asked about Havertz’s role at Arsenal: “I still have reservations (over Havertz). I don’t think he is aggressive enough,” with Jordan adding on Havertz: “He is a modern-day Alan Smith.”

Havertz will be pleased with comparisons to a Gunners legend

Havertz’s Arsenal career has exploded in a way few would have expected, with the former Chelsea flop now a real favourite at the Emirates Stadium after a rough start to life in north London.

And the Germany international will be pleased with comparisons to Smith, who many Arsenal fans would consider one of the club’s best-ever strikers and a player for the big occasions.

A winner of a European title, as well, Havertz should look to Smith as inspiration for next season as Arsenal look to challenge for the UEFA Champions League, something supporters will want more than anything.
