A Thatcham teacher has received a Lifetime Achievement Award after half a century of supporting pupils to reach their potential.
Sue Dillon has been a cornerstone of the Parsons Down School community since first stepping into a classroom in the 1970s.
As the proud record holder of the ‘Longest Serving Contracted Teacher in West Berkshire’, she has taught generations of children over her dedicated career — including this reporter.
Mrs Dillon was presented with her award by mayor of Thatcham, Mark Lillycrop — whose children she also taught more than 20 years ago.
She said: “I am fortunate to have been a teacher in a school and a community where I have been so happy for over 50 years.
“I still, to this day, love being in a classroom and would like to thank everyone involved in me receiving the award, including all my past and present colleagues and pupils I have had the pleasure of teaching.”
Headteacher, Catherine Bull, added: “Mrs Dillon's lifelong dedication to teaching children at Parsons Down is nothing short of remarkable.
“For nearly half a century, she has been a pillar of our school community.
“Her unwavering passion for teaching children has left an indelible mark on countless lives, shaping not only minds but also hearts.
“This award is a well-deserved recognition of her extraordinary commitment to nurturing the next generation."
Mrs Dillon added that ‘reading time’ remains a favourite activity for pupils.
She places great value on kindness, consideration and respect and believes pupils should carry these virtues with them from the classroom into the wider community.
She said she has no plans to stop teaching anytime soon.
