The Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is hosting a virtual health focus event to inform the local community about its current initiatives which range from reducing carbon emissions and medicine waste to remanufacturing surgical equipment.
The trust — which runs hospitals in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover — will host the event tomorrow (Thursday) at 6pm and it has invited members of the public to join.
At the free event, the audience can hear from trust chief executive Alex Whitfield, chief strategy and population health officer Shirlene Oh, as well as some of the NHS staff who are delivering the projects at the trust’s hospitals.
Ms Oh said: “As an NHS trust, we’re committed to empowering our staff to drive forward innovative solutions that will enhance patient care and simultaneously contribute to the sustainability of healthcare delivery at our hospitals.
“Through adopting innovative ideas, we’re addressing healthcare challenges at our sites with an aim of ensuring that we’re fit for a sustainable future, putting our patients and staff first.

One sustainable initiative, which the public can hear more about tonight, saw Hampshire Hospitals reduce their CO2 emissions equivalent to driving almost 7,000 miles over the course of just a month.
Led by the trust’s pharmacy team, the project introduced moving patients’ medication with them and returning unused medication so that, if it can be, it is reused instead of disposed of.
In just one month, medicines worth £6,942 were returned for re-dispensing across eight wards, saving over 2,360kg CO2e.
