Tottenham showing interest in £50m attacking midfielder who’s got the same agents as James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur now have their eyes on a £50m midfielder ahead of the summer as bolstering their squad now takes priortiy.

Champions League football is no longer in the picture for Ange Postecoglou following their result on Tuesday night.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Manchester City take all three points on Tuesday night which leaves Spurs able to finish as high as fifth this season.

But with one game to go in Tottenham‘s campaign, attention will have turned on to this summer’s transfer window.

One player whose form has declined considerably as the season has progressed is James Maddison.

And it seems the Lilywhites are already eyeing up a potential alternative to the England international this summer.

Tottenham eyeing move for Spanish forward

The midfield is an area which has provided Tottenham with a lot of issues over the course of the campaign.

This spans across the full breadth of the midfield with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur all failing to end the campaign in the form fans know they’re capable of.

Players like Conor Gallagher have already been linked with a potential move to north London with Postecoglou a big fan of the 24-year-old.

And it now seems Spurs are eyeing up a versatile forward who would be capable of providing an alternative to Maddison.

According to Football Transfers, Tottenham are now eyeing a move for Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena.

Spurs are said to be keen on the 22-year-old as he is capable of playing on either side of the front three as well as playing as the attacking midfielder.

The north London club have close connections with the Spaniard’s agent, Joshua Barnett, at CAA Base.

That is the same agency as a number of Spurs players – including Maddison – are currently signed up to which could well play in their favour.

Interesting stats show how Alex Baena stacks up against James Maddison

Although Postecoglou has Giovani Lo Celso to choose from in his squad, the Argentine has stuck with Maddison throughout his poor run of form.

But that is something which will have to change next season if Spurs are to compete on all fronts.

The likelihood is Spurs will be playing Europa League football and to see the best from Spurs next season Postecoglou will have to rotate.

At a reported £50m, Baena is a player who could provide Spurs with a strong option for next season but he may be concerned by the prospect of not playing regular first-team football.
