'Continues to be money': Alexi Lalas in awe by what he's seen from Luis Suarez at Inter Miami this season

Alexi Lalas has shared what has impressed him most about Luis Suarez this season since signing for Inter Miami.

The Uruguay international became Inter Miami’s latest superstar signing earlier this year after joining as a free-agent, with Suarez reuniting with his former FC Barcelona teammates and manager, Tata Martino.

Despite some worrying signs in pre-season, Suarez has taken to life in MLS like a duck to water, with the 37-year-old striker tied for the top goalscoring spot in the division with 11 goals whilst also bagging five assists.

Lalas admits Suarez has made him eat his words at Inter Miami

Speaking on the State of the Union Podcast, the former USA international admitted that Suarez has proved him, and many other pundits, wrong this season over how well he would do at Inter Miami.

Pre-season takes were unfair on Suarez after a more than convincing spell on Inter Miami’s worldwide tour, yet the attacker has been quick to shut up pundits who doubted him earlier in the year.

Lalas said: “I think there’s a lot of mea culpas out there, including mine and yours and others, when it comes to what we thought he was going to be, or the consistency.

“You’ve still got the dog days of summer coming up, and there will still be up and down moments, but he continues to be money when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.”

Herons need to keep Suarez fit if they’re to win MLS Cup

Despite his age and fitness concerns, Suarez has been a revelation for Inter Miami this season, with the striker rekindling his past relationship with Lionel Messi in the attack and transforming the Herons into a goalscoring machine.

And if the Florida franchise are to stand with a chance of winning MLS Cup, they will need to keep Suarez as fresh as possible, with the striker too good to be lost to injury.

Indeed, Suarez has shown he can terrorize MLS defenses with ease when in form, and Inter Miami can’t afford to lose a weapon as dangerous as the veteran striker in the weeks to come.
