‘I believe’: Italian journalist names two F1 race winners who could replace Kevin Magnussen at Haas in 2025

Kevin Magnussen’s future at Haas is beginning to look ominous after an uninspiring performance during the Miami Grand Prix.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu wasn’t impressed with the 31-year-old’s display after picking up numerous penalties.

Speaking on the Motorsport.com Italia YouTube channel, journalist Robert Chinchero has been speaking about who could replace Kevin Magnussen.

Nico Hulkenberg has already confirmed that he’s leaving Haas for the 2025 season.

The German will join Sauber before Audi take over the team ahead of the new Formula 1 regulations being introduced in 2026.

However, Magnussen could be on his way out of the team as well, and Sauber star Valtteri Bottas and Alpine driver Esteban Ocon are two drivers being considered to replace him.

The driver’s market could work to Haas’s advantage with several former race winners suddenly available for next season.

Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon are potential replacements for Kevin Magnussen at Haas

Kevin Magnussen will be well aware of how important the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is.

There was plenty of attention on the 31-year-old after his performance in both the Sprint Race and main Grand Prix in Miami.

He’s also going to be directly compared to Oliver Bearman in free practice as he drives the car for the first time this year.

Bearman is almost certainly going to be one of Haas’s drivers in 2025 but the identity of his teammate appears to be less certain.

Ocon and Bottas are both very quick drivers and leading their intra-team battles at this stage of the season, unlike Magnussen.

It shows the step up that Haas have taken this year that they’re both willing to consider a move to the team that finished bottom of the Constructors’ Championship last year.

However, they’re also keeping their options open and could just as easily end up at one of Haas’s rivals in 2025.

Haas hoping to capitalise on F1 driver market volatility

Speaking about next year’s potential Haas driver line-up, Chinchero said: “For me, I believe that they will have [Oliver] Bearman and next to Bearman there will be a driver from either Alpine or Sauber.

“I don’t think they will retain [Kevin] Magnussen.

“So, I would say Bearman and [Esteban] Ocon, or Bearman and [Valtteri] Bottas I believe.”

Who else could sign Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon?

If Haas decide to keep Magnussen or choose a different target to Bottas or Ocon – such as Zhou Guanyu – then they might both still end up staying in Formula 1.

While Bottas looks very unlikely to be retained by Sauber, he’s been suggested as a potential arrival at Williams.

Bottas could replace Esteban Ocon at Alpine and his experience would help the French works team return to the midfield.

Toto Wolff is also said to be trying to place Ocon at Williams should Logan Sargeant leave.

With Alex Albon having just signed a new long-term deal with the team, they would form a very strong combination.

There are so many spinning plates in the paddock right now that it’s impossible to accurately predict where each driver might end up.

Unfortunately for Magnussen, he could be one of the drivers who end up missing out altogether in 2025.
