Report: Player wanted by Nottingham Forest before Sangare now set for £30m transfer

Nottingham Forest signed Ibrahim Sangare in the summer and one man they wanted before that deal could now be in line for a big transfer.

The Reds identified the defensive midfielder as one of their top summer transfer targets.

He was at the top of the club’s shortlist but they had to wait until Brennan Johnson was sold to Tottenham to complete the deal.

Other, cheaper, targets were identified, with Leicester star Wilfried Ndidi on the list of alternatives.

Now, another player thatForest looked at from overseas could be in line for a move to one of Europe’s top teams.

Nottingham Forest-linked Youssouf Fofana wanted by AC Milan

This looks like one to watch, with the midfielder who was linked to Forest before they signed Sangare now set to leave Monaco.

Youssouf Fofana was a name on the shortlist, with Forest thought to have made an offer for the player.

Monaco stood firm, however, and decided to keep hold of their player at least for another season.

Now, according to Sempre Milan, it would appear as though the San Siro giants are in pole position to land the player.

Fofana has had a decent season with the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring four goals and claiming four assists.

Monaco have a bit of a situation on their hands though, with Fofana out of contract next summer.

With that in mind, it’s claimed that they would now consider offers that are over £25 million this summer.

Sangare could come good at Forest next season

It’s not been a great season for the £30 million signing from PSV but he shouldn’t be written off just yet.

Sangare came to the club when the season had already started and that saw him behind in his preparation.

Although he’d already played some matches for PSV, they couldn’t really prepare him for the demands of the Premier League.

Forest can still see the best of Sangare and he’s not the first player to take some time to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Pre-season could be key for the Ivorian this summer and hopefully, Forest won’t live to rue not signing Milan-bound Fofana instead.
