Charity boss hails special trip to Buckingham Palace for OBE

The chief executive of a Snetterton horse charity said he could not have wished for more after being made an OBE.

World Horse Welfare’s Roly Owers was honoured with the accolade – given for services to equine welfare – at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Mr Owers, whose award was announced in the King’s Birthday Honours list in June, was presented with his medal by Anne, the Princess Royal, who has long been a supporter of the equestrian industry.

“This was hugely special in so many different ways,” he said.

“To be given my award by the Princess Royal, to be surrounded by my family and for the charity to be recognised in this way, I really could not have wished for more and will remain forever grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.”

World Horse Welfare, which celebrates its centenary in 2027, helps horses in need, in sport and leisure, and those used for work and production.
