Harleston and Waveney Art Trail returns with new artists as it marks 20 years

Twenty-six artists, including two new to the group, will open their studio doors to visitors when a popular art trail returns this weekend.

Now in its 20th year, Harleston and Waveney Art Trail will showcase the work of diverse 26 artists, who will be on hand to talk visitors through what inspires them.

The event features a range of artwork, including contemporary and traditional paintings, abstract work, mixed media, lino prints, drawings, textiles and wire sculptures.

Trail chairman Malcolm Cudmore said: “I am so proud that the trail continues to go from strength to strength and that we have been part of the art scene in this region for 20 years now.

“I’m delighted to say that, despite our maturity, we continue to refresh and renew the offer to our visitors with excellent artists and such a diverse range of artwork.

“It’s wonderful that a group is showing together at Wingfield Barns. This includes some members who, for many reasons, may no longer be in a position to open their own studios in future years.

“With the support of our regular sponsor, Durrants, we welcome you to get out on the trail with us this year. Look out for our banners and the distinctive studio site boards featuring our Kingfisher logo. You will be assured of a warm welcome.”

The two new artists taking part in this year’s trail are Denise Scoggins, an abstract artist, and Robin Harries, a figurative sculptor.

Artists’ studios are dotted around the valley in Harleston, Redenhall, Denton, Ditchingham, Thwaite St Mary, Homersfield, Wortwell, Mendham, and Syleham.

All studio details are also available on the Harleston and Waveney Art Trail website, which includes a specially pinned Google map with studio locations, enabling routes to be plotted between any of the studios.

All studios are open this weekend and across the three-day bank holiday between 10am and 5pm each day, with the exception of Wingfield Barns, which is not open on Saturday, May 25, due to a private function. For more information, go to www.hwat.org.uk.
