Diss Baptist Church clothes swap brings guests and garments

Diss Baptist Church came alive with people perusing clothing and footwear last Saturday as it hosted a special charitable event.

The church opened its doors to offer up pre-loved garments to anyone who wanted to make use of them, with all of the clothing and shoes offered for free.

The giveaway adopted a similar approach to foodbanks, helping to save families from having to buy new clothes, while also offering a free cafe with hot and cold drinks and cakes.

Maureen Barker, who helped organise the event, said: “Those who came found plenty to take away with them.

“They all expressed their gratefulness and also stayed and had coffee and home-made cakes, while we chatted with them.

“We were inundated with donations and had lots left over. We sorted it all out afterwards, keeping the better items for next year’s summer clothing giveaway, while bagging up the rest for the charity shops.”
