'Do it': Teammate of reported £30m Spurs target says he can reach Mohamed Salah levels and join 'top club'

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to improve his squad.

A season which initially promised so much for Spurs has fizzled out, and the Lilywhites are now just about hanging on to a Europa League spot.

Nonetheless, Tottenham have shown improvement since last season. Their style of play is much better and they can certainly get results against top teams on their day.

One squad area Spurs could look to strengthen is in attack, amid speculation linking Richarlison with a move away and also just for the sake of improving squad depth.

Over the past few months, Spurs have been linked with a number of attacking players, including one whose teammate has hinted he should move and truly fulfil his potential.

The player in question is Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, who has been making waves in Serie A and has enjoyed a prolific campaign this term.

Calciomercato recently reported that Tottenham are in the mix for Gudmundsson along with Inter Milan and Juventus.

Now, Genoa teammate Kevin Strootman has told Radio TV Serie A that the reported Spurs target “can do well at a super top club”, comparing his talent to that of Mohamed Salah.

What has Kevin Strootman said in detail about reported Tottenham target Albert Gudmundsson?

He said, as per Tuttomercatoweb: “I said that, at Roma, Salah didn’t always score goals, even though he’d have four or five chances in front of goal.

“In the end someone said ‘if he always scored he would be at a Real Madrid or Liverpool’. And in the end he went there.

“If Gud also makes this leap, for me he will be able to go to a super top club. He must do it in order to become a champion, because his quality is already indisputable.

“He is a great professional and I am sure he will do even better in the coming years.”

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Albert Gudmundsson?

Born in Reykjavik, Gudmundsson began his career in KR Reykjavik’s youth setup, before joining Dutch club Heerenveen in 2013.

The 26-year-old progressed through the ranks in the Netherlands, going on to play for the likes of PSV Eindhoven and AZ, before joining Genoa in 2022 for a reported £1million.

Gudmundsson played a crucial role in their promotion from Serie B in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals and also registering five assists in 36 games.

The reported Tottenham target has continued to impress in Serie A, with 16 goals and four assists from 35 club outings this season.

Gudmundsson is a versatile player who has featured in central midfield, No. 10, both flanks, second striker and even centre-forward throughout his career.

Strootman clearly rates his £30million-rated teammate very highly, as he singled him out for praise last year too.

Late last year, the Dutchman said Gudmundsson reminded him of Salah when he was at Roma – which he has now reiterated – and deemed him “devastating”.
