Report: Crystal Palace now want to sign player who left Charlton in 2021, more assists than Michael Olise

One position which Crystal Palace are keen to strengthen in this summer seems to be the left wingback role, now one has been linked.

For Oliver Glasner, this summer will be about adding more players capable of playing the style of football he’s implementing at Selhurst Park.

He’s already been shown by the current first eleven that they’re capable of playing his style to perfection, as proven in the past six unbeaten games.

But Crystal Palace need depth, it’s the squad’s biggest weakness right now, but it seems like Glasner has identified a player who’d be well suited to one position which needs an addition.

Crystal Palace could offer Alfie Doughty a chance to remain in the Premier League

The left wing-back position is one which has seen players linked in recent months, despite Tyrick Mitchell‘s top-tier displays.

But in order to progress, Palace need to give him some competition.

Now according to a report by GiveMeSport, this is exactly what could happen as Palace are considering an attempt to lure Luton Town’s Alfie Doughty away from Kenilworth Road.

The Eagles are believed to be keeping an eye on the situation as Luton is set to have their relegation confirmed this weekend, to which Palace may offer him the chance to remain in the Premier League.

To complete the deal, Palace will have to beat league rivals Wolves and West Ham who are also keen on the 24-year-old.

What would Doughty bring to Selhurst Park?

As a more attack-minded left wingback, Doughty would offer Palace closer to what Daniel Munoz does on the right than Mitchell.

This season he’s shown his excellent crossing to be a skill on its own as he’s bagged eight assists and a goal this season, which is an incredible amount for a wingback at one of the league’s worst teams.

This is more than Michael Olise has managed this campaign with the Frenchman assisting just five goals for Palace.

One thing which does go against Doughty is that he was a Charlton youth player, before being sold in 2021 to Stoke.
