Report: Crystal Palace scouts have been watching Man Utd loanee in recent weeks, they'll be impressed

Crystal Palace scouts will be very busy ahead of the summer transfer window and now they’ve been watching a Manchester United loanee.

Oliver Glasner has grand plans for Crystal Palace and this is already rubbing off on his players as Joachim Andersen has set an ambitious target for next season.

To reach the levels being targeted, a lot of work needs to be done to strengthen the squad at Glasner’s disposal.

While there are priorities this summer, really every position could do with depth and/or strengthening. Now it’s been reported that a midfielder could actually be on the cards.

Crystal Palace have scouted Sofyan Amrabat

Crystal Palace have plenty of work to do this summer, but one position where there is interest seems to be midfield.

Now, according to a report from The Sun, Palace have been scouting Sofyan Amrabat in recent weeks, along with Fulham who are also interested.

The Moroccan midfielder has impressed in recent weeks since his reintroduction to the United squad and is set to remain in England even if his loan at Old Trafford isn’t made permanent.

Palace insiders were believed to have been blown away by his performance at Selhurst Park last month in a 4-0 thrashing.

His presence in the midfield has been of huge benefit to United and has solved the issues which saw them completely outclassed by the Eagles.

With United having a £21m option to buy, we imagine Fiorentina would ask for a similar amount if not less, should Palace approach.

Where would Amrabat fit in at Selhurst Park?

Signing Amrabat may look a little underwhelming on paper, but it’s important to note that prior to a season with a United side, everyone struggles at, he was among Europe’s hottest midfielders.

Barcelona and Liverpool both wanted Amrabat last summer, so signing him would be a real coup for Palace and he’d easily add serious strength to the current options.

He fits in quite nicely as either a starter next to Wharton or even a squad player with Jefferson Lerma and Cheick Doucoure both also options.

However, Lerma may find he’s played himself into becoming a centre-back option next season.

Amrabat has proven in his past two games for United, against Arsenal and Newcastle that he’s cut out for the league, and if United fail to trigger their option to buy, Palace should swoop.
