Liam Gallagher responds with four words when asked who wins play-off final - Leeds or Southampton

Leeds United face Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley next Sunday and Oasis legend Liam Gallagher has responded with four words when asked if he wants Leeds to go up.

The 4-0 win at Elland Road on Thursday night has re-injected some much-needed momentum and a feel-good factor between the club’s fans and players again, as Leeds completely outclassed Norwich City.

After a poor run going into the play-offs, four defeats in six and one clean sheet in eight before the 0-0 draw in the first leg, Leeds looked like a group of players playing under intense pressure and struggling.

But the 0-0 draw reminded Leeds players and fans that the club could be solid, and defensively astute. The second leg reminded those about the other end of the pitch, that Leeds can be utterly relentless.

The confidence is back, the belief is back and the dream of an instant return to the Premier League is firmly back in the club’s sights. Just one game separates Leeds and the top flight of English football.

Asked by a Leeds fan if Daniel Farke’s side are going up, rock and roll star Gallagher responded on X:

Liam Gallagher responds when asked if Leeds are going up

What stands in Leeds way between another season in The Championship and the holy grail of the Premier League, is Southampton. A side that have beaten Leeds home and away during the regular campaign.

But there are caveats to those defeats. On the south coast, Daniel Farke will openly admit he played the wrong side as he left the likes of Joe Rodon, Archie Gray and Ilia Gruev on the substitutes bench.

On the final day of the season, automatic promotion was pretty much gone because if Leeds did manage to beat Southampton they would still have needed Huddersfield to beat Ipswich and they failed to do so.

Belief is back at Leeds and there is momentum, with Farke now knowing his best side. Two things Leeds didn’t have facing Southampton beforehand and Gallagher has responded when asked if Leeds go up.

Asked if “Leeds going up or what”, Gallagher replied: “Hope so love Leeds”.

What pundits are saying about Leeds or Southampton in the final

Neil Warnock gave a typically funny response when asked about for the winner between Leeds and Southampton come Sunday, stating it would go to penalties but wouldn’t pick a winner between the two.

Curtis Davies also gave his take this weekend, having watched Leeds and Southampton both impress in their second legs after 0-0 draws in the first. He backed Leeds to get the job done over Southampton.

It is going to be a hugely-anticipated clash come Sunday and both sides will feel they have the tools to get the job done. Leeds are back but Southampton will be confident after winning 2-1 in the last meet.
