‘We’ll see’: Neal Maupay provides teasing update on Everton future as Brentford snub transfer option

Everton’s summer will likely consist of mass outgoings, with a few names already confirmed to depart at the season’s conclusion.

Both Andre Gomes and Andy Lonergan will leave at the expiry of their contracts, thus freeing up a huge sum given the wages the former in particular was on.

However, that will likely not be enough to completely avoid another PSR nightmare, and as Kevin Thelwell has already forewarned, more sales will be needed.

But that does not necessarily mean that someone like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jarrad Branthwaite or Amadou Onana needs to go.

After all, it is worth remembering that there is a considerable amount of dead wood at Goodison Park that, if all were sold for small chunks, could amount to a huge sum recovered.

Neal Maupay outlines Everton future

Players like Michael Keane and Mason Holgate are the first names that come to mind when it comes to those out of favour within the current regime, but with Neal Maupay another still contracted to the club, he marks another sellable asset.

After all, the Frenchman has enjoyed a solid loan spell with Brentford this season, with the club now releasing their plans with the striker: ‘Neal has made a massive contribution to Brentford during both of his spells with the club.

‘He has completely justified the decision to bring him back on loan, contributing important goals and being a key part of the squad.

‘Brentford retains the option to bring Neal back permanently if we wish, but we have explained that we will pause that decision for now, having already signed Igor Thiago from Club Brugge.’

Well, in his goodbye video, Maupay hinted at a future that would not necessarily be on Merseyside.

He finished by saying: ‘I’m not scared about the future. I know whatever comes next I’ll be ready for it. So, stay tuned and we’ll see.’

Sean Dyche will not want Neal Maupay

It is no surprise that Maupay seems to be angling towards an exit, given how he does not even come close to the kind of striker that Sean Dyche has demanded throughout his career.

The likes of Beto, Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes, Calvert-Lewin and Jay Rodriguez all have one thing in common which the Frenchman does not: immense physicality.

They have bullied defenders all their careers, meanwhile the former Brighton and Hove Albion man has made a career as a nuisance centre-forward, nipping in where few expect.

He certainly can hold the ball up, but it became painfully evident last campaign that he was not a good fit for Everton.

His one Premier League goal all season evidenced that, with his 5 foot 8 frame further proof.

Dyche will be happy if he can regain any kind of fee for the 27-year-old, who has made his feelings about the club clear on numerous occasions.

Maupay even blamed fans for his tough spell at Goodison Park, further alienating himself from them. An amicable return to action under Dyche seems an impossibility now.
