'Feel strongly': Barry Ferguson sounds worried with 'interesting' Celtic summer transfer claim

When the dust settles on Celtic’s title party the fans will still have the Scottish Cup final to look forward to next weekend.

If Brendan Rodgers can manage to lift the final prize of the season, it will be the cherry on top of what has turned out to be a very good year for the Celtic boss.

Almost written off by the press, Rodgers vowed to write his own story after seeing the narrative that was being said about him and his players. And hasn’t he done just that?

Wrapping up the title has meant that Celtic get automatic access to the riches of the Champions League and that is the reason why Barry Ferguson sounds really worried next season.

Ferguson is concerned about Celtic getting ‘stronger’

Celtic got a fair amount of stick for not strengthening the first team properly in the summer and January transfer windows.

But it seems that that won’t be the case this summer as Ferguson ‘strongly’ believes that Celtic are going to splash the Champions League cash.

Ferguson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I don’t think that’s going to be the case that summer. I feel strongly that they’re going to go and spend a bit of money on that quality that Brendan Rodgers obviously feels he needs.

“And Celtic are going to get stronger as a team, stronger as a group and it’ll be interesting to see on the flip side of that what’s going to happen at Rangers.”

The Celtic supporters are under no illusions about what areas of the team need strengthening. And neither is the manager.

The fact that players like Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki have rarely played and that we are still relying on James Forrest to get us over the league title finishing line highlights two areas of the team that require attention.

Coupled with Joe Hart retiring, that is three areas of the Celtic team that need immediate attention this summer.

It’s just as well there is a cheque coming Celtic’s way this summer from UEFA because there is no doubt that Brendan Rodgers is going to need it.
