'Excellent': Sky Sports pundit noticed big improvement in £32m Chelsea player vs Bournemouth

Moises Caicedo stole the headlines in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Bournemouth.

However, Arsenal legend Alan Smith was also impressed with another player in blue.

Caicedo scored his first goal for Chelsea in spectacular fashion, netting from the half-way point after catching Bournemouth keeper Neto way off his line.

The 22-year-old is the club’s most expensive signing following his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.

And it was another summer signing who caught Smith’s attention.

As well as Caicedo, Chelsea also brought in the likes of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi last year.

Jackson arrived from Villarreal in a £32m deal, and Smith thought his hold-up play against Bournemouth was very good, especially compared to how it is on other days.

Commentating on the game for Sky Sports (19/05/2024 at 16:38), the former striker said: “He’s had a good first half, the centre-forward. His hold-up play has been excellent, which isn’t always the case.”

Jackson finishes the 2023/24 Premier League season with 14 goals, which is fairly impressive for a 22-year-old who has not been playing in England for too long.

How many goals will Nicolas Jackson score next season?

Jackson should be aiming for around 14 again, but just getting to double figures would not be a complete disaster.

The likelihood is that the Senegal international will be the team’s second-choice striker next term, so he could end up getting less starting opportunities.

Chelsea continue to be heavily linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. If the Nigerian arrives at Stamford Bridge, there is no doubt that he is going to be the man to lead the line for the Blues.

With Jackson being the only recognised centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad right now, Chelsea really could do with Osimhen or another No.9 arriving.

Together with Jackson, that could be enough to help Chelsea make a return to the top four and the Champions League.
